I am working on Glaze layer formation mechanisms, and nowdays I am having problems on it, tests I am conducting now are not reproductible in comparison with ones I run in summer, and I was wondering if the environmental factor can't affect their behaviour (I am not sure if even with 700°C that can be possible). I worked on DLC coatings before and I know that they are very sensitive to the environment factor (temperature, humidity...), could it be the case? Thank you very much
Glaze layers can be lacunar and very porous. The pore diameters are small enough to lead to water adsoption/desorption phenomena giving a high sensitivity to moisture. At room temperature water can be physically adsorbed in the capillaries but also a part can be bonded chemically to the material. The desorption temperature can be quite high in this last case. TEM can of course give information about the layer microstructure.
