I believe that the flying car will become a reality, and it will become widely used, but it is necessary to create the mechanisms, laws and paths that you follow.
This is rather common in futuristic movies. For us to reach the stage where everyone has a flying car, there is still a very long way to go. First of all, the benefits of having a flying car have to outweigh not having one. So far, what The benefits that I can see so far are shorter time travel and "coolness" effect. There are many things to consider (like runway, flying car accident rate, new traffic regulations, energy efficiency/environmental friendly....).
Is flying CAR going to be a reality in near future?
Think flying car is technically a reality (see YouTube link below). But economically, commercially, legally etc. might still facing some challenges like: buy vs rent-as-a-service (like Uber), order-to-build or mass production, safety regulations, driving / flying licensing issues, availability of run way, suitability of model for vertical take-off or landing in congested areas etc.
I believe it is going to be a reality more than we expected. Especially for newly founded areas in certain countries such as UAE, Saudi Arabia issues like infrastructure, cost, commercialization, and legal situation etc. might not be a big problem.
