Does any one have experience with BOTH T. spiralis and Trichuris muris infection models in mice? I know that T. muris is exquisitely dependent on an appropriate Th2 response in susceptible mice for clearance. Does T. spiralis clearance have a similar all-or-nothing clearance profile in C57Bl/6 mice?
I have significant experience ( 2 years of postdoctoral research) with Trichinella expulsion in a variety of inbred mice strains and have also maintained T. muris, but I didn't do any expulsion studies on that one. One thing I noticed when I tried to get my research published was how resistant a certain group of investigators were to any data that challenged their assumptions. Good luck!
Would it be possible for me to obtain some embryonated T. muris eggs in the future? I've got several marine toxins I want to test for anthelminthic activity and T. muris is one of my preferred models, but has recently become very difficult to find in the US. I've passed the USDA test and can arrange all import permits.
As a follow-up to your original question, I'm not at all sure expulsion of the two species have much to do with each other. The inbred mice models we used for Trichinella studies (both spiralis and pseudospiralis) weren't C57Bl/6, but we did extensive studies in NFR/N and DBA/2 mice lines.
