Environmental DNA is an additional tool for field ecologist. Mainly used for populations with reduced number of individuals that almost imposible to track or have an approximation of the existence and abundance in a particular environment. False positive and false negative have to be considered and mesocosm studies should be conducted before applying this technology in vivo.

eDNA could probably provide a indication support tool for presence/species density levels in certain ecological niche, taking into account field sampling aspects and other related environmental actions.
