About 35 years ago Richard Dawkins published his book "The Selfish Gene", elaborating a thesis that evolution is driven by competition of different alleles of genes for survival using more complex organisms as vehicles for their propagation.

It has occured to me that the COVID-19 may the ultimate validation of this perspective. Never before, in the post-industrial world, had an event so disrupted the routine of life as has this pathogen - and the final chapter is yet to be written.
