@Ljubomir, I am very glad to see that this is going to be implemented as you show. I think that biology is a complex part of natural sciences which is going to be fully joint with chemistry and physics. In Physics we are still in "stoneage" studying mainly simple materials for the electronic technology, but materials organized as living ones are going to be the next future and I am sure that they deserve a very reach chemistry-physics new principles.

I think the most exciting developments in biological sciences will be that branch that forms out of the intersection between biochemistry and quantum mechanics. Quantum tomography based experiments will likely to show the significance of quantum biology in future years. The inclusion of quantum informatics and thermodynamical principles will add further interest to this hybrid field, so I would say it is not one field that can be singled out to be the star performer in coming years. With the current pace with which research developments occur, researchers can expect to be trained in multi-disciplinary fields to stay competitive. In a sense, we have lost the predictability element as to which core field is going to contribute the most in the future, and encouraging diversity helps.

I think it definitely is very exciting, especially since the beginning of molecular biology. It blows my mind every time to think that biological processes, from the smallest to the biggest, can be described through concepts from chemistry and physics. These advances can have important biomedical applications such as designing more specific drugs to analyzing the genome for more effective and accessible gene counseling. Plus, 3D printed tissues are really promising in my opinion.

But of course, studying living organisms is very different from studying non-living materials as in physics and chemistry. For studies on higher-order organisms, ethics come in the way, so I think it will definitely complicate studies.

Further to the point I made earlier, understanding how a cluster of cells with in-built signatures of  longevity interact with each other, and are able to counteract  newer drugs designed to disrupt these complex communication channels is a hot topic in cancer research. Can a framework based on quantum information processing be established to identify the communication patterns adopted by the cancer cells? Will the ideas from quantum evolution and non-Markovian signatures help us understand why  some cancer cells are so robust and resilient? In the quest to the design of newer biomedical drugs, we cannot discard the mathematical and physical aspects of oncology.

    Speaking about tumoral cells, their main problem is that they divide at a velocity which is independent of the usual physiological needs, which we assume well defined in the DNA code. Thus in principle seems that the main task is to see how this information was changed and the main problem is that we face an extraordinary complex problem due to have a huge amount of atoms working within these mechanisms. But what nobody discuss is that the laws of Physics remain invariants under such a changes.

@Baldomir  Regarding tumoral cells, the intriguing aspect is the evolutionary advantage these cells have over normal cells. Each time a new revolutionary drug is announced (immune checkpoints & all), the tumor cells seem to find a way out to beat the system, as if these immortal cells possess some predictive powers. In some cases, the tumor cells appear to take time to work things out (against the drug), by which time, all the tumor cells are wiped out and the patient is recovered fully (NED). In other cases, depending on age, tumor size, prior state of immune system, you get the tumor cells emerging victorious. Looks like some elements of game theory can be employed to examine the situation, I am sure all these issues have been published somewhere. Appreciate if someone can comment on this. More specifically, I think the the deep links between information protocols within the vast machinery of the genome system and the  predictive powers of the tumor cells should be examined, which is a big ask, perhaps there is a possibility with the use of supercomputers.

   I'm physicist and one of the applications that we have found is magnetic hyperthermia for destroying the tumoral cells. This technique is out of the "informatics" that the cell can use, because we apply an external magnetic field with an amplitude and frequency dependent of enviroment of the cell (for instance, it is not the same a carcinoma than a sarcoma). This allows us to change the temperature of the cells within a window of 42 to 46 Celsius degrees during a certain time and well focalized in the tumor with mangnetic nanoparticles.

     It is not surprising that these tumoral cells evolve much quickly than the normal ones because they divide for adapting to the medium, i.e. most of the ones which couldn't survive disappear and only the ones which overcome the difficulties of the drugs can follow alive. The question is how, the DNA information has changed during the metastasis? This is more than informatics because it is the change of the chain of amino acids within the chromosomas, i.e. pure biology.

Hi Daniel,  Magnetic hyperthermia sounds promising like some newer immunotherapy drugs, I guess that combining the two approaches will lead to better results with increased chance of survival rates.

Physics is well known for the amazing and unbeliavable problems it studies (starting from the relativity of time, carrying on with black holes, dark matter and energy).

Days ago I was thinking that Biology also deals with such interesting problems: Why after a war, when the male/female balance in the population is altered (up to date, despite the increasing involvment of women in wars, most of the casualties are still men), more boys are delivered to life until the balance is restored. What is the mechanism to let know sperm and eggs that males are needed (I am aware males provide chromosome X or Y, while females only X, so males define the sex of a baby, but maybe female eggs, when there is a lack of one sex in the population reject one the chromosomes provided by males). 

Another exciting example is the astrobiology.

Maybe at the end, all knwledges will merge in one very interesting science
