I am on the task of efficiently isolating genomic DNA and RNA from bacterial biofilm samples originating from marine algae. The biofilms were scraped of the algae and resuspended in natural seawater, so the salt concentrations should be rather high. Samples were stored at -20°C ever since the biofilm was scraped off.

Can anyone recommend any specific Kit for this application or any manual protocol that might be helpful? I was considering to test the kits from Mo Bio, but since I have no experience with this type of isolation I would rather use something that is proven to be efficient in terms of received DNA/RNA amounts and purity levels of extracted nucleic acids.

Thanks in advance!
