In my research, it is evident that there are many musicians among language interpreters. For those particular interpreters it is obvious that there is a connection between interpreting, language and music. But for many others it seems not to be the case. Thank you for any information on the musical language interpreter and the influence of musicality on the language interpreting process.
I came across a news article in Nature magazine about the link between music skills and language skill in children; after two years of music instructions to students, they showed remarkable language performance than other students who didn't receive music training. But I can't remember which issue it was.

I can't help you too much but I have an observation. Yes, musicians and language people are similar in that they both listen ver carefully. This is probably both innate or learned. I suspect that the genetic component is a major factor. A researcher could probably develop a test instrument that could measure this. Something like one of the Seashore tests would probably be a good start.
I am not very familiar with language interpretation, but I suspect that there is something to do with interpreting prosody. As a phonologist, I prefer to choose musicians among my PhD and MA students, because they are better concerning prosody distinctions.
Thank you very much. I am indeed also looking for proof that in certain professions (except musicians naturally), there are more musical people than in other professions (consciously hired or not). I heard that in the IT professions on high level, recruiters give priority to musical iT candidates.
