We currently use NuPage mini gels (Bis-Tris or Try-Glycine). Our western blot apparatus is the old Bio-Rad mini-transblot cell. Our protocols vary from 1 hour tranblots to overnight. The problems we have are sensitivity as our proteins of interest are in the nanogram to picogram quantities. We do Immuno-precipitation to improve detection.
I'd love to know the answer to your question as well. I've been looking at Proteinsimple system, but I'm skeptical about its sensitivity. One quick thought though - have you tried acetone or TCA precipitating your proteins and re-dissolving in small quantities of 2xSDS with 5% 2-ME? You'll end up loading all the protein you're interested in, if the gel doesn't get overloaded, so possibly removing the need for IP first? Just a thought.
