The topic of first responder suicide has gained momentum over the last several years, with a focus primarily on law enforcement and emergency medical personnel.

I am aware of publications (e.g., Ruderman Whitepaper on First Responder Suicide) and datasets (e.g., FBI's Law Enforcement Suicide Data Collection) that focus on suicide in these unique populations.

What I can't seem to locate very much on is last responder suicide, that is, death by suicide within the ME/C (medical examiner/coroner) community.

A recent publication by RTI (2024) documents "death by suicide among peers" as a highly rated source of stress among surveyed medicolegal death investigators; however, I cannot seem to find any research or existing data sets that back up the frequency or prevalence of suicide within this community. Currently, most support seems to be anecdotal.

Is anyone aware of literature or available data that focuses on suicide among the ME/C community (e.g., coroners, medical examiners, death investigators, mortuary staff, etc.)?
