To a lesser degree women have obtained their rights because most of them are still being over powered by men. Most women are still hustling to get good job opportunities in companies, introducing them into the leadership systems and putting trust in them. and however it's only a few of them who have tried over coming this like the ED UNAIDS Winnie Byanyuma, the speaker of the republic of Uganda honourable Rebecca Kadaga, Dr Janice Businge DVCA Kampala international university.
And I would recommend gent's and females to join hands together help women attain equal rights with men, such as giving them good official posts, introducing them into the leadership systems.
Yes, all women have obtained some rights; some have much more than others, yet the road ahead of us is still long and hazardous, making it imperative that we continue the struggle.
It depends on the societal norms of the country in which they reside. The international day is an insult to me personally, as I do not need a "day" to further my rights or advocate for me.
Yes , awareness and implementation of human rights law around the world has changed women's social life.international women's Day is the day to celebrate this success.
I think the answer will vary from country to country Asmaa. I am not sure how one day of recognition can be used as any measure. Surely it should be every day of the year? In Australia the story is mixed. Generally women are underpaid and under-represented in many areas, from Government through to private enterprise. Women have been marching here in recent days in response to sexual harassment and rape allegations within the halls of Federal Government (and in society at large). The government response has been patronizing and woefully inadequate. Victim blaming seems to be their default position. Men have to speak up, but the most important thing I can do is listen. We have a very long way to go. International days are tokenism at best.
Hello everyone, and thank you Asmaa for your question. I agree with the position that March 8 is a day of to raise awaremess that women are not treated as equal humans or given the same opportunities in current societies. Most countries have laws that make women "equal" but those same countries have traditions and cultural practices that make those laws ineffective - and of course, non-compliance goes unpunished.
Because of purplewashing we see a lot of female triumphs, with one woman reaching the top or another working in a long-standing male role. However, women are still not paid the same, they are not given the same opportunities for development in their career, or even given space to comment in meetings without being interrupted or patronized. Are there industires (beyond caring for the elderly or children, cleaning or prostitution) where women have over 30% presence?
At home women are house cleaners, tidy-uppers, homework police, grocery shoppers, bill payers, food preparers, etc. Equality is not only for women.
Let's not forget the fact that the women rights of today that we open for discussion originated in the necessity (Industrialisation). Industrialisation also brought individuation and separation from group identity has again had its bearing on patriarchal suppression of women. However, the State's role to keep the isolated individuals meaningfully together has yet not achieved the level to claim women's right reaching a parity in equality and liberty. What we see today in the form of women's right is the promise (may or may not be fulfilled according to circumstances) to protect rather the provision to provide, which could result in real empowerment.
Women of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma, stereotypes and violence; a future that’s sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities for all. To get us there, the world needs women at every table where decisions are being made.
Still there is lot of gap what they deserve.
They get paid 11 per cent less globally than their male counterparts. Why??
So it could be said that still lot of things to be done for the respect of women. Their right, dignity, equality, recruitment on top posts, higher education etc are the need of today.
