Dear Dr. Teodora Hristova. Your question is fascinating. Since I have seen many I-pads elementary school in the Netherlands who have gone bankrupt. The complexity of on-line learning is that children first need to learn writing and reading but also to calculate with their hands. On the other hand if computers do contain Artificial Intelligence the learning process can be adapted to the level of every child. To my opinion we need both techniques, the old method, reading aloud in the class and learn to memorize tables by heart but also the modern methods with an I-pad and Artificial Intelligence in it in order to produce tailor-made learning. All the best, Carl
I am for the old methods of reading aloud, but it is necessary for children to learn how to communicate through new technologies and to be protected from bad influences on the net.
Dear Dr. Teodora Hristova, I agree with your opinion. I assume that you might be worried about their social media use. In the Netherlands we developed software programs that might help kids to discover whether the news -story, picture and video- is fake. Kids are getting lessons at school where they learn to work with this software. I hope that this answer is closer to your intention to raise the question. All the best, Carl
Dear All, I start with a Latin saying from the time that I studied philosophy. The word is " Distinguo". I distinguish the present youth who has a certain background from home where the parents taught them to read and write before entering school. I distinguish another group whose parents helt the opinion that profound reading and writing-teaching belongs to school teachers. I also distinguish between various schools in the West and those in developing- or underdeveloped countries so that there is no one single answer to Teodora's question.
Where I live, Israel, there are schools where children have to leave their mobiles and the like at the entrance of the class and they receive it back during freetime or after finishing school.
I would not start with letting children go online to every topic which is available during the first two years of elementary school. Most of the interesting stuff is in a foreign language which they also can learn better and properly when they are still young instead of roaming the Internet.
The access to specific well-selected online-lectures should be available through a system projected from a type of Mobile to a screen which everybody can see and hear in class instead of that each child wanders around online without any possible supervision what they do and see.
The old school of teaching has had its merits--the present generations prove it--but it does not mean that new approaches must be found to be in line with the present progress in technology of which the Internet is one option.
Dear Teodora Hristova , your research question has nothing to do with Artificial Intelligence. I do not understand why have you linked it with this project ARTIFICIAL-INTELLIGENCE-AI-GLOBAL-PORTAL !
I do not know if primary school (at least in Bulgaria) can fulfill this responsible function. For this reason, I think that parents should constantly prepare their children for life, apart from great fun, there are also some dangers. That there are people we can love and people we have to guard against .... It's complicated and it's not going to be a day ... but that's part of the pleasure of being a parent.
Interesting question and interesting answers and I agree with the opinions expressed by Dr Carl HD, it is very important and essential to inculcate the good ideas, behaviour and morals into the brains of young citizens. So implement of certain rules and regulations in the primary education to overcome such difficulties.
Dear Ljubomir, I understand your comment but allow me to come to the defence of Teodora. Artif. Intell. is a kind of approach wherein at the end humans are ruled by computer programs developed by other humans. Education is one of the topics that is an important item in educating and/or re-educating people, especially the youth which absorbs anything thrown at them. In this age where AI is under development it is a good idea to tackle the difficulties in spe before nobody cannot do anything anymore against it because it is a fait accompli. This, I think, Teodora had in mind.
From experience as a substitute teacher in the public schools, it depends. Technology can be a distraction from learning. Try lecturing when someone is on their mobile phone and then ask them a question, getting a blank stare being returned. In some schools, mobiles are not allowed, in others, they are allowed and depending how the students respect their teacher or the rules they put them away when they are told to. I worked as full time sub for a few weeks in the English department at an inner city high school. The seniors all had writing assignments to finish in order to graduate on time. Some students had their assignment computers other did not, but all had their phones. I wanted them to get started on their papers, so knowing that some would be on it, I took advantage of the situation. I told them to access their Google classroom accounts on their phone and put the Google Docs app on it, then they were told to start writing. I told them they could write anywhere even in the bathroom to finish up their papers. One hundred percent of students completed their writing assignments. I had to fix a set deadline to make sure no one was going to slide by. Even one of the seniors who spend every day playing video games got to work. All of the elementary school in the district have some computer time, but it has to be monitored so students are not accessing sites that are inappropriate. Students who have access to their phone generally are texting, going on social media, watching videos, playing video games or visiting inappropriate sites. So it really depends.
Regarding your research question, I may say it is important. Fine resource is linked.
From the beginning children learn about communication, whether it is looking through a picture book to learn the name of household objects, asking dad for more juice, or negotiating with a sibling about sharing a toy. In other words, communication is a major part of childhood.
Communication training is vitally important for elementary school students. Communication skills help children develop healthy interpersonal relationships, evaluate mediated messages, and learn to present themselves in effective and competent ways to others. The Kids Communicating website offers elementary school teachers easy tips and learning activities to help foster communication training in their classrooms...
Use of Technology or artificial intelligence could be destructive. I suggest a blend of both old/primitive mode and modern tech.usage. Best way is to study them and know which one is best for them that would help achieve one's aim
This is an important issue and I believe discussing is important Furthermore, education and reeducation through practical problem solving such as exposing a child to some decision-making experiential learning situations would be helpful.
