You can apply a variety of teaching and learning methods online (synchronous and asynchronous) such as but not limited to evidence-based practice, direct instruction, interactive instruction, experiential learning, and case-study approach.
Synchronous interactive live sessions are can help engage students very interactively. Teachers could also put up discussions forums for students to raise their concerns and queries. Students should also be provided with sufficient learning materials and practice activities.
The use of whiteboard on zoom or webEX to explain difficult areas. Giving time for questions and answers. Checking for understanding. Engagement of learners.
I personally enjoy the used of google meet and the univerity learning platform. Content, discussion and assessment are on the platform and we interact over google meet for more detailed and interactive discussions.
2020 put us all to the test but teachers and students showed their unwavering commitment. In 2021, we will transform the way we learn, underpinning the green and digital transition in education and training and creating new opportunities for everyone.
I wish You all the best in the New Year. Happy 2021!
Effective teaching via virtual way can be applied by both zoom and google class room which all were effective since advent of Covid 19 and after face to face classes were closed because of this pandemic.
This an interesting quetsion and replies. I assume there is no specific recipe. It al comes down to practicing, seeking personal and professional development and always take into consideration the context, the learners and your own personality!
Teaching online would be boring without using Collaborative Learning. If you use a specific platform such as Adobe Connect or others, try to use the techniques and some tools to involve students in your teaching. Nowadays, there are plenty of tools that help you to interact with your students. Searching in Internet and reading papers make this more clear.
Dear Anja Devi, the key factor and criteria for "the best way" to choose methods of teaching and learning could be the idea of harmonising the student's personal needs, capabilities and appropriate way of thinking according to the content of the teaching/learning subject in a scope of developing of multiply intelligence. That makes broader 3 parameters for investigation: the priority of personalisation; the specific of the teaching/learning content; the educational aim to empower multiply intelligence of the student. I hope there could be some more practical recommendation found out on your question.
The best way to teach online is to be designed like jigsaw puzzle. To ensure the participation of your students you must design your activity in such a way that non of your students remain without putting its part to complete the puzzle. Learning is the transformation of ideas so in online learning.
Loreta Statauskiene Thank you. "Harmonising the student's personal needs capabilities and appropriate way of thinking according to the content of the teaching/learning subject", the way to teach effectivelly.
There is no best way. Authors have to consider and make tradeoffs among competing variables—desired objectives v. media limitations v. diversity among students. As we have learned from Covid in the short run the resulting mix is disappointing.
I must responsibly say, as an educator, that there is no one ideal way. Each teacher and each group of students is different, as is the context. The fundamental thing is to prepare yourself as well as possible and treat the students as you want to be treated.
The bad thing is that we are so conditioned to face-to-face education, that many times it is thought that if it is not face-to-face, you cannot learn and this is a mistake. The good teacher will be face to face or online, and the one who wants to learn, will learn face to face or online.
yes sir Gustavo Eduardo Toledo Lara . A good teacher is always ready to teach and a good learner is always ready to learn whatever is the way of medium, online or offline.
For effective teaching and learning process, use of XP-pen, Open Board, google meet, animations related to the topic, visualization of structure using VESTA software , by making vedios on respective article (e.g. https://youtu.be/blK5rgeKh4g ; https://youtu.be/wfhNr16u9N0 ) on Vesta and gdis etc. etc.....students are constantly remained interested in the topic.
In my place, most teachers use Google Meet. It's free, and doesn't limit our use to 40 minutes. I prepare my PowerPoint for my students. I present the slides. I also switch to present some Excel file or a JPG picture as needed. The students are quite happy with this. I ask them not to waste this time of the pandemic, but continue to grow in knowledge and wisdom. The whole class is on a WhatsApp group with me, and so our communication is reasonably smooth. Thanks.
I respect the comments of others, however I think that the REAL question is not what technology to use, but rather the theory-based instructional design that makes use of the technology.
Well, I would argue that the worst way for online teaching is trying to replicate face-to-face modes of delivery.
That is, a shift from traditional classrooms, absolutely, requires an entire curriculum transformation where the teacher modifies his/her classical ways of teaching to new ones that best cope with the learners' needs during the last pandemic crisis situation.
This, therefore, implies engaging oneself in novel teaching methods assisted by digital tools and educational websites.
I find some free access LMS like Google Classroom and other tools such as Mendeley, Grammarly, Zoom, and Google Meet very useful. In Google classroom you can send learning materials, design assignments, tests, quiz and manage your class, your calendar and communicate perfectly with the learners. These other tools can also help you to create virtual learning communities or groups, organize/ manage learning materials. If you want to create video tutorials in which you present your content on PowerPoint or any other format and share your screen with the learners, Google Meet, or Zoom are also very useful. Other digital media platforms including YouTube are also useful in distributing/ accessing learning content.
The best way of teaching online is therefore determined by the ability to create, distribute and communicate information/ content in different formats to cater for all types of learners; auditory, kinesthetic, visual learners. Contrary to what Jouhaina Ouachtati said about curriculum transformation, the deal is in making online teaching and learning appealing, compelling and interesting. That's being flexible and innovative and not necessarily changing the curriculum, which in my view must be shaped by market demands.
The development of online classes involves considering several aspects: 1- selecting the right teaching platform, 2- thinking visually: this is key to develop innovative content, 3- adapting teaching materials, 4- giving feedback to students, 5- communicating expectations, 6- motivating students' interest and 6- designing the right content for the success of the teaching-learning process.

"So, this Google package; alongwith Wattsapp for connectivity sometimes outside classrooms, Jam Boards/ Miro boards/X-Mind as super helpful mapping tools and a final course archival on youtube/ equivalents is largely the omnichannel approach one can follow" Nanki Nath Phd
