Can we find the same psychological processes that lead to collective violence, when we study the terrorist violence? (eg dehumanization of the victim, victimization, polarization ...) Are there specific characteristics of terrorist violence?
Certainly, although my thoughts have been on gang war and a part of my research has touched that; I have been pondering such materials as I encountered in my fieldwork on the subject and how demonization of the other, dehumanization of the victim set off a process that accommodates the unleashing of violence on the other. I am certain the same phenomenon can be found for terror organizations and especially in the conquest, conversion and indoctrination of terror operatives to be unleashed.
There are collectivistic cultures and communities in foundational psychology. Sampling and critical thinking can be a guide in research. This aspect is not my cup of tea but conspiracy, addiction, and "pushing" amounts to defence. Underestimating the mimicking of expression on broadcasts and media and acclaiming all sides is a coward's act of assault through lack of defence reminds me of U.S. foundational revolutionary conflict toward tyranny. The etiology is divers due to the accumulation of followers where colts are acts of compulsive malingering and/or victimization (Sufferer/ and/or recruit (Enslaved) {id Freud Histrionic personality disorder}) Victimology...
What a nice question. We should distinguish between lone wolves and terrorists working with companions. I agree that polarisation, radicalisation and terrorism should be a part of violence. I am working in the field of workplace violence where I propose that incidents of polarisation, radicalisation and the intention to commit a terrorist attack are part of the field of workplace violence (see also Vaughan Bowie's work).
