The Crystal Violet assay uses cells attached to cell culture plates to dye them. It is based on adherent cells detaching from cell culture plates after cell death. Crystal violet will stain both living and dead cells, despite the fact that it is harmful. Only adherent cells should be used in the viability testing. It doesn't distinguish between live and dead cells on the plate; dead cells are simply washed away because they aren't adherent. Thank you for your query. Enjoy your research!
