I am getting slightly confused here... When the term 'time interval or delta t' is used, does it explicitly imply time between successive frames or can it also refer to the time taken to capture each frame i.e., the exposure time? Like say while acquiring image stacks, I keep the time lag between frames as 0ms and my exposure time is 10ms, would I then say my lag time or time interval or delta t is 10ms?

From my understanding, time interval refers to the time between adjacent frames. This applies when you are performing time series imaging, for instance. This will be the inverse of the frame rate you are going to use. For example, if you are imaging at 100 frames/sec, your "delta t" will just be 1/100 = 0.01 seconds or 10 milliseconds. So, this means that at this condition, your camera will capture a frame every 10 ms which is nothing but the time interval. Hope this clears things for you a bit.
Anirudh Gangadhar Thank you for the answer; I understand this part, the time between successive frames = delta t.. what I'm confused about is the condition which I described that suppose I keep this time between frames as 0ms but keep the camera exposure time as say 10 or 20ms so the shutter opens for 20ms and an image is captured... so even in this case we can say that delta t= 20ms right? Because eventually an image is captured every 20ms.

Exposure time and time lapsed between sequential frames are two different entities. For instance, in static imaging, if you just want to record a single snapshot, you would do so with a fixed exposure time. There is no concept of delta t here because you only have a single frame. Now, consider another situation where your sample is flowing and you are trying to do high-speed imaging. In this case, you cannot have "0" delta t because that would imply an infinite frame rate which would not be practically feasible. By definition, delta t refers to time between sequential frames and is directly derived from the frame rate you set. It may or may not be the same as exposure time depending on what you set it as.
It might be helpful if you could provide some information on the type of imaging experiment (static/flow/time lapse/high-speed etc.) you are performing
You need to understand that the exposure time is basically the duration of time the shutter will be open for every frame that you capture. "Delta t" is the time between two frames. If you make this "0", what that means essentially is that you don't have sequential frames and are just capturing snapshot at a specific time.
