I and another lab technician had prepared suspension buffers placed in 2mL aliquots into 500+ plastic tubes (image attached). These tubes are meant to contain 2mL saliva samples for population genetic work. While we observed all precautions -- lab gowns, gloves, face masks, hair caps, I am just worried about the possibility of contamination coming from either of us. Despite that donor's sample (and DNA) being present in huge amounts, should I be concerned if a tiny contamination, e.g. hair follicle, a stray vapor from our breath, lands on the tubes or buffer? The samples will undergo SNP microarray typing, whole genome sequencing (30x) and Illumina FGx sequencing (forensic STRs and SNPs).
