In measuring the breaking force of compacts, is it expected that a hardness tester and a stress-strain analyzer will give identical values ?

The stress strain analyzer is operated at a speed of 0.01 mm/s. I am not sure if there is a rate control on the hardness tester.

Dear Aditya,

The failure mechanics in each of the test is different. In the stress strain analyser, the compact is expected to fail at some location in the gauge length and the failure will be due to tension or compression, The hardness test will give localized property of the material. The strain analyzer will give you test volume averaged property of the compact Hence both the test machine will give different results.
