In lithium ion battery Lithium based metal oxides are used as a anode but in Li-S battery it is not used. Is there any particular reason to use lithium as a anode?
The theoretical specific energy of Lithium/Sulfur Batteries is (about 2600 Wh/kg based on complete reduction of sulfur). So that, we need an excess of Lithium to ensure more Sulfur can reduced to Lithium sulfide, and therefore getting much higher energy.
