When modelling the ecological niche/habitat potential/etc. of a species, we can and should include data on landuse/landcover (lulc).

Often such data is categorial and spatially explicit (not overlapping). However, nowadays we can choose between dozens of different datasets, with different categories, levels, and spatial scales.

So when modelling, do you stick on using only one lulc dataset (either the best fitting one of already existing datasets, or creating a new dataset out the existing ones using e.g. GIS) or do you often indclude two or more lulc datasets, that encompas the same study area but show diffferences in categories or spatial scale?

This question is specifically about the lulc data, not about other environmental data like climatic or topographic variables (which I think it is common practice to include several of them).

While there are lots of different modelling approaches, I am especially interested in your answers concerning MaxEnt.

I am curious to hear your answers,

Cheers Florian
