testing acoustic velocity for rock sample (1" * 2"), but for some samples, the attenuation time is very large so that I am not getting good velocities. There is a difference between transmitting and receiving time. this issue is only for few samples.

This is related to the fractures of samples. For example, the measuring result of rock is superior to coal. So in the experiments, you should select the samples of higher homogeneity and compactness. You can measure the density of sample to classify the samples. In the best, you can measure the porosity of the samples.

probably high porosity level could yield a significant travel time difference.
