I am applying electric field at the flat surface of a 3YSZ cylindrical sample (3%mol yttria stabilized zirconia) in a sandwich setup (platinum electrode - 3YSZ - another platinum electrode), and I wanna know if the electric field that I am applying is the same of others researchers.
I am using 90 V/cm (so as they), but my sample size is different from their. It makes me think that the polarization process could interfere at the real electric field felt by the 3YSZ. Since 3YSZ relative permittivity is ~40 and platinum ~0.87.

The electric field is the voltage applied divided by the thickness of your sample. It is as straightforward as it sounds, and it is the way it is calculated in flash sintering publications.

I've been using E = V/h (where E is the electric field, V the voltage, and h the sample's thickness), but sometimes the results look different from the literature. I am working in another possible reason for that though.
I'm convinced that's not the case, but I haven't kept up to date with the most recent results. Can you give me the references to the papers, so I can check it out?
Daniel Marinha I meant that the results at the literature looks different than mine, not different each other. Actually, I am not using Pt paste to improve the contact and I am pretty sure that's why.

No worries. Flash sintering is notoriously sensitive to preparation conditions. Make sure that there the electrode/sample contact area is flat, uniform and constant throughout experiements, especially if using high electric fields.
Hi, dielectric polarization is not a big problem. But there would be electrode polarization, i.e. overpotentials developed at your electrode/electrolyte interface. That would influence the sintering kinetics.

The fundamentals are electrode kinetics in electrochemistry, with simple forms like Butler–Volmer equation. You can find it in any electrochemistry or solid oxide fuel cell books or simply wikipedia. I have a paper on its relevance to electric field effect in ceramic processing (Journal of the American Ceramic Society 101 (3), 1058-1073).
