I found a systematic review that based it's results on randomised, single study arm and non randomised studies. I'm considering a systematic review on the same topic however I'm concerned if the limitation mentioned above is enough to justify a systematic review in the same year.
In my view SR with same topic (same population, geographic assumed) in the same year without addressing limitations maybe redundant.

Non-randomized clinical trials are more prone to selection bias (Since known are unknown factors are not usually distributed proportionally in each group), which can subsequently affect the trial's result and, therefore, the systematic literature review/meta-analysis (SLR/MA) outcome.
Suppose you want to carry out a SLR/MA, and you realize that someone has already published an article with the same topic and similar methodology. In that case, you can still perform the study because there could be differences between the methods you establish and the search strategy you built respecting the other SLR/MA.
Also, you need to know if the previous SLR/MA did a quality assessment of the articles and whether the search methodology was thorough. If they did perform a MA, you need to check if sensitivity analysis was performed, publication bias assessed, or meta-regression was carried out. Those could be methodological limitations that can justify the development of a new MA in a short time.
Andrés Felipe Herrera Ortiz Thank you for such a detailed answer, the study did perform a quality assessment however 4 of the 11 studies were that of low quality due to selection bias and other faults in the study design. I assessed the paper using the CASP checklist and found the paper had a quite few limitations enabling me to do an updated SLR.

A truly reproducible and minimum biased SR is very hard to achieve (my opinion). And as long as we are coming up with improved methods (based on codes or not), then it is something very good in my view.
