We observed a large number of salps (solitaries and aggregates) in the temperate Northeast Atlantic north of 55°N in early summer. Salps occurred in chains and individually from near the surface to several hundred meters down. The camera used does not allow for precise size estimates (yet), so our educated guess is that the chains were up to a meter in length. The specimens do not resemble Salpa fusiformis very well. Do you know which species we may have encountered earlier this year? Your brainstorming is much appreciated. - Florian
