From literatures, Rose Bengal Agar is the specific Agar for culturing Trichoderma. spp. However, liquid PDA is also suitable for the culturing of the Fungus.
You can grow the fungus for RNA extraction in PDB, but there is a high rate of sectoring and potential loss of activities in such a rich medium. Thus, a lower nutrient medium generally is recommended if you are interested in something like the RNA that might be relevant for biological control. See for example some of the work on differences in production of biocontrol relevant materials in varied media (Harman et al. 1991, Howell 1999, Anitha et al. 2005, Singh et al. 2007, etc.).
Yes you can grow on liquid medium, but I advise you it is better if you use corn meal agar, oat meal agar, potato dextrose agar, Czapek's Dox agar, special nutrient media, carrot agar, rose Bengal agar, selective media and etc...for the overall process of your experiment.
