It depends on the haematology test you will carry out. Some of the factors are labile and may need to be done with urgency and some you can store in low temperature for a long time.

- Red blood cells.

- White blood cells -count and 3 differential -.

- Hemoglobin concentration.

- Plates.

It is impossible to store native blood longer than 8 - 24 hours (depending on the hematology test).

You have two possibilities:

One is to use a split sample technique and analyse your sample within 8 hours on all devices, making sure that the storage and transport are the same for all devices.

Two: buy stabilized blood samples used for external quality control. In the latter case you are not dealing with nativge blood anymore which might cause a slightly different measurement.

You can store blood at 4C in Alsever's solution for up to 10 weeks, or in a variety of citrate-phosphate-mannitol anticoagulants (~42 days). Based on my experience, Alsever's doesn't keep the blood fresh per se, it merely delays storage lesions. While some parameters are more affected than others, the most labile I have noticed is RBC fragility; these cells lyse more readily with storage. The literature is full of studies assessing the effect of different anticoagulants, storage conditions, and the occurrence of storage lesions.

RBC can be stored in a SAG-Manitol solution up to 42 days but some parameters index and morphology test will be altered. WBC and platelets cant be stored for a long time in the same solution.

External quality control samples at strict store temperature are the best. platelets & WBCs half life is more shorter than one month. all blood reserve solutions are mainly for RBCs.

Samples stored for longer than 24 hours at room temperature and 4 days refrigerated (at 4 °C) are not reliable for CBC testing. Red blood cell indices are even less reliable due to hemolysis and increased cell permeability by time.
