Dear everybody
By re-fluxing a solution containing the molar ratio of sodium hydroxide , sulfur flowers and dichloromethane for 5 hours,the thiokol polymer compound was synthesized. The characteristic analysis of this compound was achieved using CHNS, TGA, FTIR, FESEM and EDS. My question is : How can I determine amount of Cl- in this compound?

Dear Mina, You might want to use XRF to check the constituents of your compound. Best of luck.

that is right, as you know by carrying out XRF I will get the presence of Cl- which I have got it by using EDS before, I mean due to the organic compound (thiokol) which was obtained during reaction, it seems XRF could not show real amount of Cl- in organic compound, therefore I need the technique which help to obtain quantitative amount of Cl-.
Spectroscopic techniques like XRF and XPS are surface selective, and I don't know how much penetration depth you would need to get a representative look of the whole sample composition. There are spectrometers that ablate the sample, providing a depth-profile of the composition.
You might also try digesting the sample (not sure with what, but there are probably published methods) and using ICP-MS or ICP-OES to quantify the chloride content.
