when using 0 1 coding, like genmod, the main effect only show the difference among the reference group, when interaction is used. If 1, -1 coding, the main effect value is not the difference with reference group, you need find the parameter by sum of others levels than multiply by -1. You can use contract+estimate option to get overall comparison as Firas's example, or conditional comparison. The main effect for categorical measure difference, the two ways interaction measure difference of difference, if the difference by one factor the same across the level for other factor.
