I have RNA-seq files that are in Fastq format but are in GZIP type. I want to convert or open this GZIP files into Fastq. What is the best software to use for this purpose?
On Windows or Mac OSX, any compression software (WinRAR, 7zip etc.) should be able to unzip them. (Just Google!)
Note that gzip is just *compression*, it is not a change of format as such. You just need something to uncompress the files. Note also that text (such as fastq) can be compressed *a lot* and so the uncompressed files might be very big - depending on your disk space, you might need to gunzip, process and then recompress (e.g. gzip) before going on to the next one.
Hi Dear Vivian Panes For your answer now it is so late!!!! but if other researchers now the same problem, you have asked an applicable question.
I use the bellow link in windows OS system that is a good and useful program. You can apply it easily for solving your problem. Just try it! https://tool-download.com/System-Utilities/File-Compression/PeaZip Regards, Nasrin
