The synthesized compounds were confirmed by authentic spectral techniques like IR, NMR, GCMS. but only few (1 or 2) of them showed diffraction, even other compounds are derivatives of the same.
U can try with some other solvents. Crystallization is a kind of technique. u have to spend lot of time in that. crystallization mostly depends upon the solubility, solvents and conditions. u try with other solvents and conditions u will get it sure.
actually this is normal case . you known that each molecule has proper conditions to be stable at certain tempreture . so processing of recrystillazation of each derivatives will effected by defferent factors. in other words the stability of each molecule should be checked and this will help you to get a crystal molecule for each derivatives
If you have a crystal that is not diffracting it is most likely disordered, or not ordered enought (the parameter used to refer to the internal disorder of a crystal is mosaicity). Therefore you have to keep trying different condition to get crystals of higher quality. Since crystallization is basicly a phase transition, to get a well ordered single crystal you should have a SLOW transition, which allows molecules going into the crystal (solid) phase to assume the correct orientations in the lattice. Therefore, try to slow up your crystallization process, this can be achieved by lowering the T or/and the concentration of the molecule or/and the precipitant concentration.
crystals of some -N and -S containing heterocycles but only a few (1 or 2) of them showed diffraction because the crystal you obtained must be transparent
