I have 500 data set, Is it ok to split the in to 60% for training and 40% for testing?

As I have 500 data set in my work. I have split the data in to 60% for training and 40% for testing the data set in ANN. Is it ok to run the data set in NN. Pls give reason behind this so it help for my research work.

Yes we can do testing with 40%, Training with 60%.
