I'm not sure but it sounds like you have a full factorial model with only one replication of the experiment. Check that your model has enough degrees of freedom. If that's not it then please provide more information. Best wishes David Booth

Thanks @ David. I am an MSc student of Applied Statistics, I don't really understand what you mean by enough degrees of freedom. I was given like a class work to fit a regression model using all main effects and all two way interactions, which I have done. I am just trying to understand better why the asterisks, how to report this, and what is the best thing to do when this happens

I'm not sure that I understand your question, but I think you used the L9(3*4) Taguchi method, and this problem is due to the degree of freedom; you should use pulled factor to solve this problem.
