An oscilloscope is good to show periodic signals as it triggers at a certain (amplitude) point and the (repetitive) trace sweeps the CRT from then on to the end of the scope screen. The EMG is NOT periodic, so it will not appear on a normal oscilloscope. Unless you have a more sophisticated oscilloscope that will capture one sweep of the signal and show it, an oscilloscope is not the appropriate display for EMG signals.

If you do not have a digital oscilloscope, you can play with trigger function and you should be able to see the EMG signal.
