Dears, I am looking for an ecological scientist who is expert in Environmental statistics to help me investigate the relation between phytoplankton and water quality in re-flooded Mesopotamian marshes. Please check the attached Aim of the study for more clarification. I would like someone familiar with Principal Response Curve analysis that I would like to use to investigate changes in Water Quality and phytoplankton abundance before and after marsh desiccation. Also I am attaching the reference I looked at that describe the use of Principal Response Curve analysis. Thanks for your interest in advance.
we have studies on phytoplankton in re-flooded marshes in the Danube Delta. actually, those areas are surfaces of several hundreds or thounsands of hectares which were drained at about 30 years ago (in order to be transformed into agricultural lands) and they were subjects of re-flooding at about 15 years ago, with the support of the World Bank (actually, in the frame of a project supported by GEF)

Based on the powerful multivariate approaches, we have studied on micobial ecology, especially the spatial/temporal variations in community structure of stuplanktonic/periphytic eukaryotic organisms and their relationships with environmental variables in aquatic ecosystems, mainly marine biotopes and inclding lake/river systems. Recently, we have reported the spatial pattern of phytoplanton communties and relationships with water quality in two sub-tropic river systems (Hang-zhou and Tiesha Canals) in southern China.

I suggest you to use cluster analysis by MVSP software. You may first find out inter-relationship amongst the obtained data by Weighted Pair Group (WPG). The similarity amongst various stations may be brought out by Euclidian method. Both are a sort of cluster analysis. The software is simple to use.
I think the statistical package called Primer-E from Plymouth Marine Lab UK provides a very appropriate approach to what you are trying to do. It allows you do multidimensional scale analysis (MDS) in conjunction with cluster analysis and then relate to environmental variables. The supporting manual is called: "Change in marine communities: an approach to statistical analysis and interpretation (Clarke & Warwick 2001). Unfortunately, the software is not free. I have used this package to characterize plankton species composition in relation to different environmental variables.
Hi Sama. Well, I looked the study, and the first two questions are simple to test. For the first, you can use a NMDS to view the communities ordination and test the significance against a null model using a npMANOVA. The second, I would use a Canonical Correlation to assess what environmental factors may be influencing the ordering or species, but then comes a question : repetitions! Without at least 10 repetitions (not pseudo repetitions) per type of environment, is very complicated to use a multivariate analysis for that. For question 3, you want to use your data as a prediction model?. Look for that , you need a lot of data! If you have them, just use a Generalized Dissimilarity Model (GDM). I personally would not use one PRC, it has problems for biological data just as PCA , if you have many zeros in the matrix it tends to not recover well the trends in the community matrix. All analyzes that I told can be done in R, there it a lot of tutorials and articles in the net. My two cents.Cheers.
