I have been growing spirulina algae on Nutrient agar. It only shows bacterial count, not algal growth. Even I have done plating on algae agar, it is not showing any growth. In initial days, I have added the spirulina (found on Amazon.in) in DI water and added some media (which I got along with mother culture). After some days, we got a thick layer of algae on the water surface and all over the water. Then, we did plating from that algal sample on nutrient agar and algae agar at 30-35 degrees Celsius. But couldn't find the algal growth on petri-plates. And if we are directly inoculating the mother culture on nutrient agar plate after serial dilution, it shows fungal type growth(white color flower like structure).
