We have a strange "tailing" in our GC-irMS when analyzing Hydrogen Isotopes of methane.
Its not really a tailin, more like a plateau at the end of the peak. The plateau is flat for certain time and it drops down to the actual baseline. Looks like this

We dont know, what this is. We already changed the colomn (no effekt), heated the injection loop (no effect) and changed the Pt-wire tube in the reduction oven (no effect).
Of course it is a mixture. Samples are natural gas. I dont think there is a chromatographic separation of e.g. CH4 and CH3D etc possible. Why use an isotope mass spec if that would be possible :-))
