I want to know, before publishing an article, that the journal is in top 20 % in that reserach area. I understand that some good impact factor journals publish articles from diverse fields so research areas might also overlap between two or more journals.

I second to the answer of Mr. Treutwein, Clarivate Analytics provides one of the most widely used metrics of journal reputation.
You might also find interesting the ScimagoJR database which also sorts the journals according to their respective fields and impacts. However, unlike the Clarivate's Analytics World of Science, the ScimagoJR database is publicly available free of charge.

In addition to what is already said. There is the so-called Quartile rating.
Both Clarivate as well as SCImago (Scopus) provides journal listing in the Quartile rating :
Q1: 0.0 < Z ≤ 0.25
Q2: 0.25 < Z ≤ 0.5
Q3: 0.5 < Z ≤ 0.75
Q4: 0.75 < Z
In other words you are looking for so-called Q1 journals, which is quite ambitious I have to say.
PS. This ranking can vary in different categories. For example Toxins (MDPI) is a Q1 journal in Food Science & Technology while it is a Q2 journal in Toxicology.
