now a days because of global warming and climatic uncertainty and even change in market we should think some thing new for agricultural sector which can develop and sustain agricultural sector for that can we use agro tourism and how
Dr.Ms.Meena,good topic for discussion.I have, some time back, seen small bulletins or brochures on agrotourism in some developed countries like Australia. It is worth trying in some agricutural areas nearer to well developed and connected cities. The west coast has lot of tourist attractions.Similar is the case in areas adjoining Himalayas. Both foreign tourists and also indian tourists can be attracted.Good horticultural and plantation cropped areas will also be attractive.Progressive farmers with good infrastructure to stay and arrange for local visits need to be documented and involved.Good agricutural areas endowed with natural beauty will definitely be attractive in week ends to families residing in adjoinig cities.Even some State Agricultural universities like Konkan Krishi Vidyapith,Dapoli ,Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapith ,Rahuri in Maharashtra can take some lead with StateTourism department.
Agro-tourist farms offer additional attractions: mini zoos (very often with exotic animals), playgrounds for the children and the opportunity to help around the farm (feeding hens, milking the cows). And for an extra fee (usually small) you can participate in thematic workshops: bee keeping, pottery, painting, sculpting.
I am glad to know that Maharastra is leading in Agro-tourism.Reference 6 attached by Dr.Arvind Singh provides good account of the progress. We need still greater progress in this venture. As per other publcations listed by Drs.Abhishek and Singh,it appeared that the initiations started where I expected .
The farm owners in rural areas should promote agro tourism activities for the development of agricultural. At the same time, in urban areas, schools and parks should promote this kind of tourism where children or adult could learn how to take advantage of our great Mother, the EARTH, who nourishes all of us.
Agro tourism can contribute to rural development through the following:
- Promoting typical each of the regions involved products , allowing its diffusion from contact with markets from cities .
- It encourages the creation of infrastructure for the populations involved , promoting job creation and dissemination of culture and national traditions .
- It provides stakeholders an option contact with nature and get away from the monotony citadina plus culturizarse about country life and learn about agro-industrial processes carried out in different regions.
This is akin to reaching direct marketing (refer attachment) and a cooperative coverage
Any toursim be it agro or lesiure is a sensational business and not a sustainable one. Ofcourse , this is one of the avenues to make money. The cost of advertisement, reach , interest creation or hyping needs to focus.
Agritourism is a subset of a larger industry called rural tourism that includes resorts, off-site farmers' markets, non-profit agricultural tours, and other leisure and hospitality businesses that attract visitors to the countryside.
Rural Tourism differs from agritourism in two ways. First, rural tourism enterprises do not necessarily occur on a farm or ranch, or at an agricultural plant, they do not generate supplemental income for the agricultural enterprise.

The Philippines topography is very ideal for Agri-tourism. Agri-tourism farms, such as those in Benguet and Guimaras, are scattered throughout the country. Leisure farms or farm resorts have sprung up in different regions of the country. These are farms with resort, accommodation, and dining components.
I think you can support the agricultural tourism by asking Responsible companies from other types of tourism that intervention to support the addition of a private agricultural tourism activities.
I think the agro-tourism by increasing farmers’ incomes and encouraging their awareness of agricultural values can lead to rural development as well as agricultural development, especially in developing countries.
The truth is that all countries of the world should try to develop agro tourism because it is harmless......for the following reasons, in Thailand where people farm on the hills, the terracing method of farming will be interesting to tourists that are not from that part of the world. Meanwhile the nature of agricultural products can be an attraction itself. For example in the entire Nigeria land mass, a specie of pepper locally called YELLOW PAPER can only be produced in Nsukka area of Enugu State and it is produced at a commercial quantity. The agricultural farms on their own have serene environment that is free from the hassle and bustles of city activity and this is an attraction of its own. Meanwhile tourists can equally patronize these farmers and by so doing increase their income.
Just read an interesting article on agro-tourism from a city state point of view as I am currently based in the UAE where agriculture is almost non existent but still has a lot of interest. The Singapore study that I am recommending is one directed to such an environment. Hope it will provide you with another dimension!
