Hello everyone! I am currently doing an analysis of the occlusal analysis. Now I have a pressure sensor for the mouth, just like Tek-scan. I am trying to link stress analysis with a certain oral disease (such as Temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome-TMD, periodontitis) and establish a series of graded diagnostic criteria or rate the reliability of implants based on occlusal analysis. Sorry I don’t know a lot about stomatology.Is there any research on the relationship between occlusal analysis and oral disease diagnosis, rather than just outputting bite force data?Thanks!
Dear sir, diseases such as Periodontitis, surely have negative effect on the occlusal pressure and will show statistically significant difference in Tek-scan reading in normal patient and patient with periodontitis. However, diagnosing periodontitis only on the basis of occlusal analysis wont be possible. Since, periodontitis is an inflammatory disease and its diagnosis is based on clinical findings such as changes in color, consistency of gingiva, pocket formation and more specifically clinical attachment loss. Depending on the severity of periodontitis, there could be varying degree of underlying bone loss that would affect the tooth's capacity to bear occlusal forces.
Hence, you can compare cases of severe full mouth periodontitis, with bone loss in multipe teeth with those with mild to moderate periodontitis and also keep healthy periodontium as control group to prove that with increasing in severity of periodontitis, the occlusal load bearing capacity is affected.

Hello, I consider that the relationship that the periodontal tissues (LP including the different types of fibers, alveolar bone, the gum itself) maintain with occlusion generally has an important long-term impact, however when associated with temporomandibular dysfunction disorders or Myofacials (specifically chewing muscles) can be analyzed in a multidisciplinary way since it could help with other specialists to measure the degree of affection, both bone, muscle, occlusal and periodontal.
There is a study that you can download on the web, I attach it, if you want you can contact the authors, there is the contact address so you can have more information, these authors did a similar study that may be of use to you.

It would also be interesting to carry out a prospective study on the influence of bite force and load cycles on vertical bone loss in single dental implants, bridges and total implant-supported prostheses.
Dear sir, there are two ways to analyze the effect of bone loss on alteration in biting ability or occlusal analysis in terms of biting force.
(1) Ideally a long term study of same patients from relative healthy set of teeth to a long period when they might develop severe periodontitis or loose some teeth and thus you prove that with progressive bone loss and/or progressive loss of teeth the patients biting ability is severely hampered.
(2) a more practical way would be to compare the occlusal force generated by age/gender/built/diet matched groups. One set with healthy teeth and gums and other with periodontitits. Larger the sampe size, smaller will be the occurrence of results appearing 'by-chance'.
