Any advanced diagnostic technique to test skin health or a condition non-invasively? What is the efficacy of the same, and how can we determine the cost of testing with this technique?
In cosmetics, non-invasive tests are usually achieved through instrumental measurements and biochemical tests.
In my published research, a more sophisticated skin analyzer (DermaLab Combo, Cortex Technology, Denmark) was used to evaluate the degree of wound recovery. A self-developed correlation algorithm was used to find and visualize the relationship between groups.
The instrument can measure the transepidermal water loss (TEWL); relative humidity (RH); melanin levels; extent of erythema; and the wound color according to Commission Internationale d'Eclairage L* (CIE-L*), Commission Internationale d 'Eclairage a* (CIE-a*), and Commission Internationale d'Eclairage b* (CIE-b*) and ultrasound of skin images.
As for other biochemical tests, various combinations depending on the research's needs. In my study, the combination of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-10 can be used to evaluate whether inflammation occurs.
Cosmetic efficacy in vivo ( Clinical) are made with bio instruments following a protocol in many volunteers for have enough data to be statistically significant.
For some purposes you can do bio instrumental tests for all parameters you want in less volunteers.
The cost is basically the payment for ethical committee approval, health professionals ( dermatologist) , volunteers and statician support during the time of the test.
