My model is a flat rectangular 2-D workpiece. I want to give a velocity of the tool over it in contact as 100m/min.
The workpiece dimension to be displaced is 160microm. How to find the total time needed to run the simulation as well as the time step and displacement.
Please suggest, I'm doing it by S=D/T formula calculation. Is it right?

you can place the impactor tangentialy next to the workpiece (because you dont care what happens before contact) and set an initial velocity from predefined fields. I think that there is no certain why to know the total time, that is something you can test. The time step should be carefully picked because you work with explict method. A rule of thumb for safe results is that the time step Δt should be smaller than Tmin/10 , where Tmin is the shortest period taken from a modal analysis.

Please suggest me that what do you mean by the term Tmin. Suppose that my total time for analysis is 0.001s. Then what should be the time step increment?
I'm getting an error of excessive distortion in an element everytime O run the analysis. It's already too fine meshed. Is time step matters to this critical error?
You can choose the automatic time step for the explicit step which usually works fine. Can you see where is the distorted element? Is it in the slave surface?
Yes, I've made the master element as a rigid tool. Distortion is occurring in slave.
Im first trying to reproduce a paper.
I've provided a predefined velocity of 16.67m/s as was in a paper. Now I need my tool to displace 160e-6m. And when I'm giving this displacement it's not even cutting the workpiece.
But when I give 1.6 then it does and with distortion error.
I've given time as 0.0001s and 10000 steps increments.
Can you suggest the cause?
