Most DNA extraction kits use solutions which can inactivate DNase activities, so DNA extracted by such kits should be fine in TE at room temp. In addition, it is winter.

It is also good idea to precipitate DNA with EtOH or Isopropanol in the presence of salt (150mM NaCL or 300mM Na acetate). After precipitation, remove the solusion by centrifugation and add some amount of 70% EtOH, then it is ready to send it.

Using filter paper is often used, but it could depend on your samples and experiments. I often heard complains that DNA would not recover... The idea itself is good, though...

U can preserve and recover your dna extract in TE buffer.It can avoid of reducing the risk of degradation.

Freeze it and send it together with dry ice.

If you want to send plasmid DNA you can just drop it on filter paper.

Yo can send in TE buffer or maybe dry from water, there is no any problem about the degradation. Also freeze it would be another option. I send samples from Spain to USA in TE buffer and was good. Good luck.

Easiest, simpliest way is on a filter paper or you can use FDA card produced by Qiagen which already has a preservative for nucleic acids.

Standard and safest way to send DNA is by drying it on sterile paper. The recipient rehydrates in water and off they go. This is not only the safest but also the least expensive.

lyophilise or dry it and send it even at RT which could be revived by addition of water or TE buffer. you may follow Kazuo Fushimi protocol. i feel its the best way to keep it undegraded.

If you lyophilise high molecular weight genomic DNA there is a high risk that you remove to much of the hydrate water. If the DNA becomes really dry you will have considerable problems to redissolve the DNA. I would suggest that you precipitate the DNA with sodium acetate and ethanol and then there is no problem with stability at RT even for RNA.

If these are just samples for conventional PCR you can even send them in water at room temperature. If you need high molecular weight fragments (e.g. for southern blots) or quantify something by real-time PCR, I would prefer the precipitation. If you just want to perform a PCR with an amplicon

Yoi can send DNA extracted samples in dry ice to be sure that no degradation will occurr.

By the way, the way using filter paper is for transformation of plasmids or less difficult PCR. If the person who receive it wants to use DNA directly (transfection to some cells without propagating plasmids by E. coli, southern blot analysis etc) filter paper may not work.

Hallo Aurore, a drop a DNA solution to a filter paper, and you can send it by post. DNA is very stable...but under DNAsa free conditions.

There exist special FTA Elute cards (comparable to filter papers) to send and store DNA samples. In our lab, we had a good recovery by using these cards.
