Hello fellow researchers.
I want to assess the antimicrobial activity of few fungal isolates.
Given that I have douzens of isolates, that cannot all be tested, and that I have not performed the molecular identification yet, I intend to select some after a summary morphological identification.
However, in order to choose an isolate ''right'' , I was wondering if you could give me some characteristics that could indicate that ''the said isolate'' could present an antimicrobial potential (production of pigments ..etc)????

@Phil Geis... sorry, I forgot to mention that these fungi were isolated from saline desertic soils.
Phil Geis I want to study some of these fungal isolates for their production of antimicrobial metabolites (antifungal and/or antibacterial). Since I have a great number of isolates, and I do not have enough time nor enough ressources to explore all of them, I was wondering if there is a way to select the right isolates for the study, if I have to look for some specific features, such as producting pigments (secondary metabolites) .... etc; that could be a hint to their antimicrobial potentiel.

I thought so too. I think this option is a better scientific approche, more suitable than a hint.
But then again, how to choose among all of the Aspergilli and Penicillia that I isolated. Here lies my dilema.
