A huge number of papers are dealing with the dominance concept. Frequently the characterization and analysis of community patterns and interactions within it is based on dominant or co-dominant species. There is a method how to measure the numbers of co-dominants in ecological communities (DOI: 10.1046/j.1440-1703.2002.00508.x). However, there is not any (to my knowledge) methodological framework by which one can objectively designate the dominant species in assemblages. Does anyone know of such a method?
