I have synthesized some organic substances for a specific biological activity. The final step involved the extraction of the substance using chloroform as a solvent. I left the extraction mixture in the hood for a while to let the chloroform evaporate. The NMR spectrum showed that chloroform was still found. I heated the substance at around 50C under vacuum in oven for 2 hours. No change was observed. I do not want to heat it at a higher temperature as the substance could be lost. I will be thankful for any suggestions.

A two-step process removes chloroform from water. Contaminated water is fed into a convection tank, where it passes through a “curtain” of compressed air. The air removes the chloroform from the water, and a charcoal bed removes the chloroform from the air. The purified air is released to the atmosphere.

Hello all,
I worked on finding a solution that can be available in every lab with minimum cost. Because my target product was liquid and it might be lost during freeze-drying altogether with chloroform, I looked for an alternative treatment. I tried forming an azeotropic mixture using diethyl ether and letting the lower boiling point mixture evaporate at room temperature for a period of two days. I just added an excessive amount of diethyl ether to my product and stirred the formed mixture well then left the vial containing the mixture open for two days. The result was impressive as illustrated in the attached NMR spectra.
This method worked in removing ethanol too, but the process needed two repetitions at least. Hope that might help, good luck.
