I am currently doing the synthesis of cu(acac)2, co(acac)3 and ni(acac)2. What is the suitable purification method I can use on the metal acetylacetonates? Since the proton NMR of cu(acac)2 showed a sharp peak at chemical shift of 3.36ppm, 2.50ppm, -0.0045ppm and a broad peak at 1.12ppm, seems like contains other impurities. The NMR solvent I used is DMSO d6 and I am not sure for the peak at 2.50ppm is the residual signal of DMSO or other impurities.
I have made several metal acac compounds. The standard preparations do not give much scope for producing impurities. You may get some unreacted acetylacetonate (and it can exist as keto and enol forms).
Some metal acac exist in more than one geometric form in solution.
Also watch out for proton/deuterium exchange (probably not a problem in DMSO) in D2O the methyl protons (on the acac) can be (slowly) replaced by deuterium.
