The responsibility to protect young people from lost thought and their upbringing is a correct and harmonious formation that rests with the family first before school and society, being the first environment in caring for children, instilling in them the spirit of patriotism and humanity, and working to remove extremism and intellectual deviation from their minds.
Dear Ashwaq Sami, this question is very relevant. My answer is fourfold. First of all resistance movements should be developed against foreign invaders (mostly western countries). Secondly resistance should be organised peacefully with help of the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. Third an education program should be realised for youngsters about (neo)colonisation, its instruments (including wars) and its impact on the indigenous population. Fourth a large and well-done French meta-study showed that pedagogics and psychologist do have an enormous amount of knowledge about youngsters in their adolescence. That knowledge should be used when designing preventive programs for youngsters against radicalisation and terrorism. I hope that this answer helps. Carl
Though education. Once, the Suiss psychologist Jean Piaget cogentltly remarked that only education can save societies an indivuals from possible collapse, be it violent or gradual. As I see it, education should aiming at creating indivuals interested in pursuing the true, the good, and the beautiful and hence citizens of the world. I believe that the more individuals are cititizens of the world, the less they are prone to resort to extremism and terrorism.
Eradicate religion, it creates extreme level of prejudices among individuals. As far as morality is concerned, it doesn't belong to religion. As great French thinker Rousseau said "basically, all men are good by nature", it is predominently the religion which creates the virus of extreme hatered against the believers of other faith. Past and present is full of examples.
Dear RG friends we can only protect our youth from radicalization and extremism if we recognize that radicalization is allowed. They have the right to disagree with us and the world of injustice we have created. That doesn't mean they can use physical or verbal violence. Without our young people, for example, we wouldn't have had a climate debate. We have to listen to them better and also to their solutions. They are the people who will have to carry our earth. I wonder what you think of this answer. Stay safe and healthy, Carl
When it comes to such matters, I believe they grow with us as we grow older. Whether youth or otherwise, the best way to protect anyone against extremism is to teach them right from childhood what is wrong and what is right. Teaching them to make right and reasonable decisions will give them confidence and make them less susceptible to be manipulated by others. And what is even more influential is when the youngsters see people around them act upon these teachings; this way choosing the right thing will be part of their thinking and who they are. It would be easier for them to choose the right path and harder to go astray.
I also would like to state that the personal connections count. So, basically tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are. Making sure the youth do not interact with terrorist recruiters and influencers should be the first step.
It is very challenging task for family, society and state. Until we can not trace timely any youth during his radicalization process by any radical group, its very hard to identify any youth. Good education, healthy relation with family and society, culture, awareness, school atmosphere, etc could be some steps to protect.
Dear RG-friends, two chapters of mine on this subject will soon appear in an Oxford University book. The essence is: a) knowledge is there for the taking, because anyone who is familiar with educating adolescents can also counsel young people who are radicalising, b) make this subject discussable at school (explain that radicalising is allowed, but using violence is not, just think of Martin Luther King), and c) if a young person turns to violence, involve the extended family in the counselling. Finally, the answer is, do not exclude young people who behave differently from the mainstream, show that they are heard and that you love them. All the best, stay safe and healthy, Carl
"How to protect our youth from extremism and terrorism?"
Education is the key. As I see it, only education can save countries and societies. let alone people in general, from a possible collapse, be it violent or gradual. Of course, education is costly, but is far lest costly from its alternative, ignorance.
Lakhan Singh Kushre, as far as I am aware, it isn't school radicalsaction or extremism or terrorism influence from. I am talking about UK. It's the outside influence and parents being wrong and hypocrite I am afraid it's like how children go into drug. I thank God my good , wise and great sons.
My heart cries for jack's parents and Chrisna's family.
Some caution should be taken when we speak or terrorism or terrorists. Indeed, terrorists for some people may be judged to be heroes according to other ones. I am of the opinion that "terrorism" is the case when the acts performed by those who are called "terrorists" would not pass, say, the principle of a reversible exchange of perspective or the principle of the better argument, if I can borrow from the German philospherJürgen Haberman's terminology. According to research carried out by Lawrence Kohlberg (1981, 1984) on people's moral development, such principles are more followed by postconventional moral reasoners than by their pre-conventional counterparts.
