Carbon cloth/carbon fabrics may expose to washing, mixing, hydrothermal and/or high temprature treatments and and consequently they fraying easily. How can i prevent them fraying? Or is there any special carbon cloth without fraying.
You can use a template like parchment paper or double sided tape to fix it then use carbide, abrasive or diamond cutter to avoid fraying. You may see the following links for details with a video(http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3120350638175476262&q=f5b&hl=en).
Dear Md. Abdur Rahman and Alaa Y. Faid Alaa Y. Faid,
Thank you very much for your answers and contributions.
I think the main problem is the fabric that i used. I used very cheap loose knitted carbon fabric. So It is not mechanicly stable. May be someone who want to work on carbon fabric should find mechanicly stable (more tightly knitted) carbon fabric.
But i have no budget to buy new mechanicly stable carbon fabric, now.
I keep on to use my unstable fabric for electrochemical applications.
To solve fraying problem for cheap fabric, I tried PTFE tape just for edges of fabric. It works for washing and hydrothermal condition (180 celcius degree, solvent water). I will plan to cut PTFE tape gently for high temprature treathment (500 celcius degree). Because PTFE starts to decompose at 300 celcius with toxic gases.
I will share some photos when i will go to the Lab.
