I have been trying to prepare DES solution using Choline chloride and glycerol at 1:2 molar ratio at 80 ⸰C temperature. However, the Choline chloride is NOT fully getting dissolved in Glycerol. I took 19 g of Choline chloride and mixed it with 20 mL of glycerol in 100 mL of conical flask and kept it in a magnetic stirrer at 80 ⸰C temperature with 500 rpm for more than 1 hour. However, the problem is, the Choline chloride was NOT getting dissolved properly in glycerol even after 1 hour of heating and the solution of DES did not become transparent also.

The following calculation was used for the same.

Molecular weight of ChCl= 140 g. So, 19 g ChCl= (19/140) M = 0.135 (M).

Molecular weight of Glycerol is 92 g; Density of liquid Glycerol is 1.25 g/mL.

So, the weight of 20 mL of Glycerol is (1.25×20) = 25 g. So, 25 g Glycerol= (25/92) M= 0.271 (M).

Therefore; 19 g ChCl and 20 mL Glycerol= 0.135 (M) : 0.271 (M)= 1:2 molar ratio.

Can anyone kindly let me know where we are making the mistake and how to prepare a transparent, homogeneous solution of DES using ChCl and glycerol at 1:2 molar ratio?
