I will do an enzymatic assay using a-ketoglutarate as substrate and I am wondering about the proper way to prepare and store this compound. As long as I could find out, it would be OK to dissolve it in water and store it in aliquots at -20*C. Is that correct? What about the stability? for how long is should be good to use?

Hi Kelly,
a-ketoglutarate is a stable chemical. It is safe to store at 2-8 deg temperature. Its solubility is 1 gm/10 ml as far as I know. I always prefer to store the solution in the form of aliquotes at -80 deg after flash freeze for long term use.

α-KG Standard: Dissolve in 100 µl dH2O to generate 100 mM (100 nmol/µl) α-KG Standard solution.
Keep cold while in use. Store at -20°C.
